The 1000th Episode

The 1000th episode of the Late Late Show started out with the familiar alligator-crocodile (or “Crocadillio”) puppet, Wavy Rancheros, dancing and singing to “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” by Trace Adkins[i]. This set the tone for a show where the only chance to see Craig was in the cuts to commercial. Despite this lack of the physical presence of the host himself, his humour showed in all of the interviews, which he conducted through the character of Wavy.

The first guest on the show was Jason Schwartzman promoting his character in the movie Fantastic Mr. Fox. Wavy conducted the entire interview, and in his usual fashion was a colourful and multi-bleeped questioner. After the interview, there was a “Sean Connery Holiday Memory” sketch, where Sean, rather than bring portrayed by Craig, was portrayed by the horse puppet (as of now we do not know his name). In the two “Dear Aquaman” sketches that followed, the shark puppet known as Brian portrayed the character of Aquaman. The puppet was costumed as if he were Craig as Aquaman, even down to the strangely muscled arms and legs, and the blindingly coloured uniform.

The second guest was Maria Bello promoting The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. As before, Wavy conducted the interview. There was no sketch after this guest.

The next segment was a musical guest- Jason Segel, Nathan Danforth, The Broken West (and Dracula) performing Dracula’s Lament from the movie Forgetting Sara Marshall. After this, there was a second “Sean Connery’s Holiday Memory” sketch, where, due to the constraints of Sean being portrayed as a puppet, he had some issues telling his story about potato lint at Christmas.

The final guest was the one and only Kristen Bell, who is widely known as one of Craig’s favourite guests.Wavy started out the interview by flirting with her rather outrageously. When Kristen explained what she wanted in a man and said she needed someone bigger than Wavy, he exclaimed, “Bitch, I will eat you!”

To close the show, Wavy rocked the house with James Taylor’s “You’ve Got a Friend”[ii] and Craig appeared finally appeared as Prince Charles.

Critics gave this unusual show mixed reviews, with the unusual style causing some of the more staid and traditional minded critics to show shock and consternation. The fanbase (the Robot Skeleton Army) generally agrees that this is one of the most creative and beloved episodes.

Stan Lee, or, A Study in Strange (Part 1 of many)

Shortly after Craig joined Twitter, a conflict of sorts broke out between his loyal Robot Skeleton Army and Stan Lee’s (@TheRealStanLee) POW Brigade. This was brought on by tweets from Stan claiming that the Robot Skeleton Army was a threat to his brigade, and attempting to declare war. On March 30th, 2010 at 12:11 AM, he tweeted “But there is another matter that soon may call for action! I have learned that another titan of tweets dares to form his own militia!” [i] “While we've created a POW! Brigade to serve and save mankind, another is recklessly forming a robot skeleton army! O, the senses reel!” [ii] He then went on to imply that there would be a war between the two legions, and expressed concern that there were many who followed him as well as Craig on Twitter. Following that, Stan sent this tweet “Our cause is just, our troops at the ready. So stand you down, CraigyFerg! Disarm your Skeletons! Let peace prevail! Excelsior!”[iii] Craig responded at 8:33 that night, imploring for peace: “Great Stan. Yield I beseech thee or hear the dreaded plinky ribcage xylophone calling roboskeletons to war.”[iv] With each of the leaders in a seeming conflict, both groups responded. At this time, the Historians do not have enough information from the POW Brigade to discuss their side accurately and completely. In the Robot Skeleton Army, many of Craig’s followers responded in kind, alternately calling for a war with Stan Lee’s Brigade, or calling for a peaceful end to the situation. Throughout the night, there was much made of the continued tweets of Stan Lee, and the possible reaction by Craig himself. The very next day, though, all of these warlike preparations were forgotten in the news that Craig had won the Peabody Award for Excellence in Radio and/or Television Broadcasting. [v]

Tomorrow, we will explore the depths of what some call the madness of Stan Lee. We will also soon analyze his appearance on the Late Late Show itself.

Congratulations!

Today at 2:36 CT, Craig Ferguson (@CraigyFerg) tweeted this: "Holy crackers! Mrs F is pregnant. How did that happen? ...oh yeah I know how. Another Ferguson arrives in 2011. The world trembles."

We congratulate him and Mrs. Ferguson!

February 8th, 2010- A date that will resound around the Volcano forever.

Craig Ferguson, the distinguished leader of the Robot Skeleton Army, and the host of the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (12:35 AM/11:35 PM Central- CBS) joined the social networking and micro blogging site known as Twitter on Feburary 8th, 2010. His first tweet (“I have 3 dogs. I like 2 of them The one I dont like takes a shite on the kitchen floor every morning. It's French. The dog, not the shite.”) was posted at 2:18 PM Eastern (1:18 Central). Shortly afterwards, he worried that his being on Twitter would cause its sudden drop from fashion, and he has seldom stopped tweeting since. The day he joined Twitter has been widely regarded as a “Great Day for America,” and indeed, the world.

The username @CraigyFerg has become well known among the celebrities of Twitter, with hilarious conversations, wars, and a robot skeleton coming out of associations with @michaelianblack, @TheRealStanLee, and @GrantImahara. Many of Craig's guests have included him in their posts either before or after their appearance on the show. Notably, Craig appeared on Chris Hardwick's (@nerdist) show, the Nerdist Podcast, after an exchange on Twitter that also led to Chris appearing on the Late Late Show.

He announced on the Late Late Show on February 8th, 2010, that he had joined “The Twitter” and reminded the Army that he often lies, as he had about "never joining Twitter." Craig officially named The Robot Skeleton Army on the Late Late Show that very same day, though originally the followers were simply going to train alongside the Robot Skeleton Army inside the Hollowed Out Volcano. The name was quickly adopted for the followers themselves, with the first mention of the Robot Skeleton Army coming not moments after the show aired. Craig himself adopted the name on the same day, at 23:53:12, tweeting “Dear Robot Skeleton Army. I'm off to bed. More tweets tomorrow. goodnight from the hollowed out volcano.”

Since this momentous day, the Robot Skeleton Army has never ceased to grow, with new members joining every day. The Volcano has its own newspaper (@RSA_News), its own drama, and its own personality. The one thing that can be stated for certain is that “the Tweetie” has never been more interesting or entertaining since @CraigyFerg joined its ranks.

Welcome, all!

Welcome to the archives of the mysterious histories of the Robot Skeleton Army. We, the RSA Historians, will be your guides through laughter and drama, puppets and paper, good times and bad. We seek to be even handed.

This set of histories will not only cover the history of the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, but the history of the Army itself- through good times and bad.

You may see your name in here. You may not. You may appear as a contributer. You may not. If you desire that your name not appear, feel completely free to email us at rsa.historian@gmail.com, and we will immediately disguise your name. In fairness, we will not remove content unless it is deemed to be offensive or biased, but balanced truths are always welcome.

We will attempt a fair and unbiased look at the honest histories of the Robot Skeleton Army, and yet, we will keep our sense of humour.

We will be using a tagging system. There will be marked posts that are just about Craig, marked posts that are just about the Army, and marked posts that may not make much sense.

If you have questions, concerns, submissions, helpful ideas, or guesses as to our identities, please email rsa.historian@gmail.com.

Submissions will be reviewed by committee before posting.

Thank you all, and we, the RSA Historians, hope you enjoy this foray into the depths of the ever loyal, and ever growing, Robot Skeleton Army.
